900,000 packing containers for hazardous and infectious waste are used annually in the Netherlands alone. The average weight of the waste in a packing container is1.5 kg. This means it is a mountain of 1,350,000 kg of waste!

This waste is burned with its packing container for safety reasons! It is, therefore, not recycled. This is not only not good for the environment but also a waste of one and a half kilogram of sound material.

Until recently the packing containers for this type of waste are made of the highest quality plastic (virgin material in trade jargon) Manufactured directly from petroleum. This was reason enough for HW-Logistics to search for a more environmentally friendly solution. Which we found!

The Septosystem® packing containers for 98% consist of watertight solid cardboard made from recycled paper. This material is also used for the food industry. For example, for the “wet” transportation of fish on ice and of moist peppers. This cardboard has proven to be strong and very hygienic.

Watertight solid cardboard is produced using recycled paper. That means from the old newspapers and magazines we all collect to be recycled. This is delivered in huge quantities to Smurfit Kappa, a HW-Logistics partner. It is stored in an enormous warehouse from where it is removed to be processed into watertight cardboard. This paper is used to manufacture the Septopack® and Septosafe®. 98% recycling; 1,323,000 kg annually!

The efficient collection method using the roll container, the Septainer®, also decreases the environmental pollution. The lorry load can be optimal due to the sophisticated planning. This saves at least 10% in fuel!

The combustion of cardboard packing containers furthermore produces considerably less carbon dioxide than the combustion of plastics (polypropylene).
